Unlike small cosmic pillars like the Horsehead Nebula (which sit in Orion & is often confused with it due to the similar name), the Dark Horse is a colossal cosmic silhouette located in the constellation Ophiuchus (the Serpent Bearer), hovering right near the borders of Sagittarius & Scorpius. The Dark Horse Nebula complex is situated roughly 500 to 600 light-years away from Earth. Because it sit so close to our solar system, it appear massive in our night sky.
