Wormwood a meteorite is a rock that originated in outer space and has fallen to the surface of a planet or moon. When the original object enters the atmosphere, various factors such as friction, pressure, and chemical interactions with the atmospheric gases cause it to heat up and radiate energy. It then becomes a meteor and forms a fireball, also known as a shooting star; astronomers call the brightest examples "bolides". Once it settles on the larger body's surface, the meteor becomes a meteorite. Meteorites vary greatly in size. Modern classification schemes divide meteorites into groups according to their structure, chemical and isotopic composition and mineralogy. "Meteorites" less than ~1 mm in diameter are classified as micrometeorites, however micrometeorites differ from meteorites in that they typically melt completely in the atmosphere and fall to Earth as quenched droplets. Even though it was far away, scientists used highly sensitive radar telescopes to calculate its exact orbit. Thanks to those 2021 observations, NASA & the European Space Agency officially ruled out any chance of Apophis colliding with Earth for at least the next 100 years. 3. Discovery: June 2004 (Past) Apophis was first discovered on June 19, 2004. Shortly after its discovery, early calculation suggested a worrying 2.7% chance of it actually striking Earth in 2029. Those fear have since been completely put to rest the 2029 pass is now viewed purely as a once-in-a-lifetime scientific opportunity rather than a threat.
